Watch D.O.G.S.

Overview

Watch D.O.G.S. is an innovative father/father-figure involvement program that works to support education and safety at the school.  To sign up and get involved send an email to byromwatchdogs@gmail.com

Program goals

  1. To provide positive role models for the students, and show that education is important.
  2. To provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying.

Who are WatchDOGS?

All role models, but typically, fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, and other father-figures of Byrom students who volunteer for a variety of school and learning activities.

What do WatchDOGS do?

WatchDOGS assist the school in a variety of capacities some of which are listed below.  Once you are signed up you can drop in anytime or schedule ahead of time (Mr. Coleman loves to include the list of “on duty” WatchDOGS during the morning announcements!).  Any amount of time you can spend at Byrom is welcomed and appreciated, your presence makes the difference!

  • help during morning drop off
  • watch school entrances, check they remain fully closed
  • help supervise recess
  • assist with traffic flow
  • help during lunch (lots of things to open)
  • volunteer in the classroom
  • be a positive role model
  • wear WatchDOGS gear (get a sticker in the office if you don’t have a shirt or hat)

History

Byrom’s program was started in Spring of 2017, but WatchDOGS originally began in 1998 in a single school and has since grown into a nationally recognized program. It has brought hundreds of thousands of fathers and father-figures into school classrooms and hallways across the country, creating millions of hours of “in school” volunteer time and having a tremendously positive impact on the educational process. Today there are more than 5,707 registered WATCH D.O.G.S. schools in 47 states plus DC.

Making a Difference

The kids have really responded to having WatchDOGS around the school!  Below is a sample of some of the WatchDOG artwork students have created this year.
