Welcome, Byrom Families!
Welcome to the Byrom Parent/Student Organization (PSO)! Every Byrom parent and guardian is a member of the PSO, and there are so many ways to get involved—whether you have one hour to give at an event, can help from home, or are interested in taking on a leadership role.
The PSO plays an important role in making the Byrom experience special for students, families, teachers, and staff. Through fundraising and volunteer support, the PSO helps provide and fund:
- Educational assistants and additional school staffing
- Field trips and grade-level enrichment
- Classroom supplies and educational materials
- Library resources
- Technology and school equipment
- Art Literacy
- Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB)
- Staff appreciation
- Student and family events
- School improvement projects
- Community support programs
- And many other needs that enrich our children’s school experience
We also host fun community events throughout the year—from Family Nights and the Fall Festival to special activities, celebrations, and fundraisers.
New to Volunteering?
You do not need previous experience!
Many of our volunteer positions have been successfully passed from one parent to another, and an experienced volunteer or former chair will help you learn the ropes.
And most importantly, being a chair does not mean doing everything yourself!
The chair’s job is generally to:
- Organize the program or event
- Create a timeline
- Communicate with the school, volunteers, and families
- Recruit and coordinate a volunteer team
- Delegate tasks
- Keep things moving
- Ask for help when needed
Our Byrom parent community is full of people willing to help. A successful chair builds a team rather than trying to do everything alone.
There is a place for every volunteer at Byrom!

💙 What Makes a Great PSO Volunteer?
You don’t need to be an expert.
You don’t need to have lots of free time.
You don’t need to know everyone at school.
You simply need to be willing to help.
The best volunteers are:
- Reliable
- Communicative
- Flexible
- Willing to ask questions
- Comfortable asking others for help
- Team-oriented
- Excited about supporting Byrom students
- Willing to share their skills—or learn something new!
And remember:
You don’t have to do it all.
A successful PSO chair builds a team, delegates tasks, communicates clearly, and asks other parents to help.
We want volunteering to be fun, sustainable, rewarding, and manageable.

What is Help Counter?
How do I sign up to help? How do I change my information? How do I see where help is needed? How do I input my hours? That’s what Help Counter is all about.
How to sign into Help Counter (English and Spanish)
Every volunteer should visit https://www.helpcounterweb.com/ci/volunteer to get set up and create a username/password.
You should also be checking your junk/spam folder in your e-mail to make sure you are not missing e-mails that come from the Volunteer Coordinator. If you have not received anything this year from the Volunteer Coordinator asking for help with various activities, it probably means they are going directly to your junk/spam folder in your e-mail. This is happening to so many people! Please take the time to check your junk/spam folder to make sure you are not missing out on amazing opportunities to help at your child’s school.
There is a new addition to the program this year. The district is asking all NON-parent volunteers to do a volunteer screening which includes a Background Check (paid for by the district) before helping out at the school or any school activity. There are two methods to register…(#1 is the preferred method by the district).
- Have the NON-parent volunteer go to the following web address to fill out the form online.
www.helpcounterweb.com/welcome/?en=239799780– OR – - Fill out the paper form and return to Holly Warner. (Available in the Byrom office.)

A screen shot of the application will be sent to the school to enter the information into their site if approved.
