Events

The Byrom PSO sponsors several events and programs at the school.

PIE FUNDRAISER

EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANTS
The biggest part of the PSO budget is the funding for educational assistants. We provide support to fund up to 4 additional part-time staff members at the school who assist in various functions.

GRADE LEVEL ENRICHMENT
Field trips, assemblies, and classroom presentations from outside groups enrich the education experience for our children.

CLASSROOM SUPPLIES
Teachers usually spend their own money on little things for the classroom – extra supplies, displays, educational tools. We reimburse each teacher up to $200 for these expenses.

BACKPACK PROGRAM
Did you know that Byrom PSO provides kid friendly meals and snacks weekly for students that have food insecurities? PSO relies heavily on fundraising from our Byrom community to help keep this program running.  Read more about easy ways to contribute!

FAMILY FUN NIGHTS
Three nights each year are set aside for a family activity. The Carnival at Lee Farms in September, a “Trunk or Treat” event near Halloween, and a Bingo night in the Spring.  A special STEM Night with OMSI is also in the works!

ART LITERACY
The Art Literacy program is offered by the district. Several times a year, there is a unit of instruction about an artist, style, or medium. The children of all grades have an opportunity to learn something about the art and to make a project of their own. The PSO provides the funds to cover the costs and the volunteers to lead the projects.

5TH GRADE EVENTS
To celebrate their completion of their years in elementary school, the fifth graders have a party near the end of the school year. There is also a self-funded yearbook, and a legacy art project which is generally coordinated with a local artist and is also self-funded.

BOOK FAIR
The Library Committee runs two Scholastic Book Fairs a year: one in fall and one in spring. These book fairs fund new book purchases for our school library.

BATTLE OF THE BOOKS
The Oregon Battle of the Books, OBOB, is a statewide voluntary reading and comprehension program sponsored by the Oregon Association of School Libraries. At the elementary school level, students in 3rd-5th grade are divided into teams and encouraged to read from a list of sixteen books, representing a variety of literary styles and viewpoints. A “battle” is a tournament where students earn points by answering questions about the books on the list. The winning team from Byrom goes on to the regional tournament, and from there (if successful) to the state tournament. The mission is to encourage and recognize students who enjoy reading, to broaden reading interests, to increase reading comprehension, promote academic excellence, and to promote cooperative learning and teamwork among students.

WALK AND BIKE TO SCHOOL

CARNIVAL
Another great family event, and this year hosted at and co-sponsored with Lee Farms.  Loads of fun for Byrom families with carnival-type games, bouncy houses, great food options, and entertainment.
