The Byrom Parent/Student Organization wishes to welcome all new parents! Our organization fulfills vital needs for Byrom by assisting with or providing funding for field trips, equipment, school improvement, teaching assistants, technology, staff appreciation, and special events. We also host several Family Nights throughout the year. Parents and students can come to school to dance or watch a movie, and in September, we hold a Fall Festival with face painting, outdoor activities, food and fun!
Every parent is a member of the PSO. We would love to have you get involved in helping Byrom. You can simply attend PSO meetings, or if you have more time, you can volunteer for any number of PSO events throughout the year. Below is a list of our most urgent needs. For each of these, a former chair would be available to show you the ropes and get you started. And don’t forget, as the chair, you don’t do all the work! You create teams of other parent volunteers and work together to create really fun and important PSO events. Parent volunteers at Byrom are awesome, and really do add so much to our school!

Art Literacy:
The district’s Art Literacy program gives students the opportunity to learn about artists, artistic styles, and different mediums and then create artwork of their own. The PSO helps fund the program and provides volunteers to bring the lessons to life in classrooms.
Backpack Program:
Every week backpacks go home filled with food to families that desperately need our help. Food donations come in from Byrom parents as well as various organizations such as the food bank. This person will create the monthly rotation schedule of volunteers to stuff the backpacks, coordinate food donations, working with the liaison who brings in the food from the food bank, and maintain communication to Byrom parents through various means. Backpacks are stuffed every week by Thursday. Requires from 8 to 10 volunteers per month, usually the same volunteers monthly.
Bobcat Benefit:
Each year Byrom hosts an amazing, fun-filled auction. Typically, funds raised from the auction go to fill a specific need, such as technology purchases or playground equipment. The chairs plan the event, co-ordinate with volunteers and donator; work with classroom teachers….etc. Multiple chairs are needed to make this wonderful event work – procurement, decorations, class baskets, class projects, etc. There are many areas that can be completed at home, on the phone, or driving around town. Book Fair:
We host a Book Fair once or twice a year, giving students and families a fun opportunity to explore and purchase new books while supporting our school library. The Book Fair is a great way to encourage a love of reading while raising money to support literacy and library programs at Byrom.
Byrom Garden
We’re thrilled that Byrom has a Garden Chair and that our school garden is growing again! The garden gives students an opportunity to connect with nature, get their hands dirty, and discover the magic of growing things from the ground up.
Caring Closet:(No Longer Active)
Coordinates Byrom PSO involvement with our regional Caring Closet. Organizes gathering of clothing donated by school/community as well as coordinating the ‘Stuff the Bus’ event.
Class Parties:
Class parties have transitioned to two school-wide celebrations and one special classroom party.
Trunk or Treat is a Halloween celebration that is fun, festive, and scare-free! Each classroom gets the opportunity to decorate a table or trunk and create a festive spot filled with treats and prizes.
Winter Wonderland is Byrom’s festive school-wide holiday celebration. It is a wonderful opportunity to create special memories and spread some holiday cheer throughout the school.
The Friendship Party in February is the primary classroom celebration where parent volunteers help create a fun and memorable experience for students.
Foundation Coin Drive:
Each year in February the Foundation for Tigard/Tualatin Schools hosts a coin drive. A machine is donated to us that counts the coins, and let me tell you the students LOVE this! This volunteer would be the liason between the foundation and Byrom in regards to reserving the coin machine, setting up the coin machine and emptying the coin machine each afternoon for one week in February (depositing the coins at a local bank). A few emails prior to the event, a few posters to create and one week of fun is what this volunteer gets to do!
Family Nights:
Family Nights are designed to bring our Byrom community together in fun and meaningful ways. These events give students, parents, teachers, and staff an opportunity to connect outside the classroom, make memories, and build relationships. Past Family Night events have included: Fall Festival, STEM Night, BINGO Night, Movie Night, Blazer Night, Family Dance.
Field Day:
Field Day is a fun, active day organized by our PE teachers and filled with a variety of activities and games for students to enjoy. Volunteers help support the PE team by running activity stations, encouraging students, and keeping the day moving smoothly.
Fifth Grade:
Fifth grade is a special year at Byrom—the students are getting ready to say goodbye to elementary school! The 5th Grade Party is a chance to celebrate everything they’ve experienced together and give our graduating Bobcats one last fun day with their friends.
Jog-a-Thon:
Jog-a-Thon is Byrom’s biggest fundraiser of the year—and one of the most exciting events on campus! The whole school gets involved. Students collect pledges and run laps to raise money for PSO-funded programs. Teachers join the fun by dressing in creative costumes, and each grade gets a chance to run, cheer, and celebrate together.
Library:
The Byrom library takes a community of volunteers to keep it thriving. PSO helps to oversee various library committees such as: Volunteerism, Trainer, Purchaser, Architect, Books of the Month and Media Specialist. The library takes a community of people to nurture it and make sure it works properly. Various volunteer opportunities in each committee – before, during and after school hours.
Lobby Display Case:
A first impression is always nice. We want our visitors’ first impression of Byrom to be welcoming and inviting. Our lobby is where these first impressions start. Byrom would like to display many ongoing projects in the lobby, such as – a Giving Tree (to display donations made throughout the year), a Volunteer Appreciation area, a PSO information area as well as an event informational section. Hours and time will vary dependent on the volunteer’s schedule.
Missoula Children’s Theater
Each year, Byrom partners with the Missoula Children’s Theatre to bring an exciting, week-long theater experience to our students!The production changes from year to year and is typically a fun, quirky musical adaptation of a familiar story. The program provides opportunities for approximately 50–70 students to participate on stage, making it a wonderful experience for both seasoned performers and kids who are trying theater for the first time.
Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB)
OBOB is a fun, team-based reading program that encourages students to read, discuss, and compete over a selection of books. Byrom students in grades 3–5 can form teams, prepare together, and test their knowledge in friendly competitions throughout the year.
Picture Day:
Picture Day is the annual school picture day when students have their individual and class photos taken. Volunteers help make the day run smoothly by coordinating student movement between classrooms and the photography area.
PSO Webmaster:
Oversees PSO’s website, keeps content updated and adds new features as needed.
Read-a-thon:
The Read-a-Thon is one of Byrom’s most fun and inspiring fundraisers because students raise money simply by reading! Students collect pledges based on either: The number of books they read, or The amount of time they spend reading. It is a great way to encourage a love of reading while supporting PSO programs.
Restaurant Fundraising Nights:
Several events throughout the year where fundraisers are held at local restaurants. Responsibilities include contacting restaurants, arranging these events and marketing.
Redemption/SCRIP:
A year round fundraiser that encourages parents to participate in community programs that already exist that will contribute money to our school as a result of our purchases/participation. These programs include but are not limited to: Box-Tops for Education, SCRIP.
Staff Appreciation (Hospitality):
Staff Appreciation is all about celebrating the incredible teachers and staff who make Byrom so special. Each year, the PSO plans a week-long celebration in May filled with thoughtful surprises, meals, treats, and other ways to show our gratitude.
Vision:
Vision Day provides students with an opportunity to have their vision screened at school. Volunteers help the vision screening team keep students moving through the process efficiently and make sure classes arrive at the appropriate time.
Walk/Bike to School:
Walk & Bike to School is a fun way to encourage students and families to get active and build community while traveling to school. Volunteers help make the event safe and welcoming by supporting students as they arrive at school and helping with designated meeting points or walking/biking groups.ay.
