Events, Programs & Fundraisers

The Byrom PSO sponsors several events and programs at the school, in addition to our annual fundraisers which support ongoing activities.

Events & Programs

ART LITERACY
The Art Literacy program is offered by the district. Several times a year, there is a unit of instruction about an artist, style, or medium. The children of all grades have an opportunity to learn something about the art and to make a project of their own. The PSO provides the funds to cover the costs and the volunteers to lead the projects.

BACKPACK PROGRAM
Did you know that Byrom PSO provides kid friendly meals and snacks weekly for students that have food insecurities? PSO relies heavily on fundraising from our Byrom community to help keep this program running.  Read more about easy ways to contribute!

CLASS PARTIES

CLASSROOM SUPPLIES
Teachers usually spend their own money on little things for the classroom – extra supplies, displays, educational tools. We reimburse each teacher up to $150 for these expenses.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT

EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANTS
The biggest part of the PSO budget is the funding for educational assistants. We provide support to fund up to 4 additional part-time staff members at the school who assist in various functions.

FALL FESTIVAL
Another great family event, and this year hosted at and co-sponsored with Lee Farms.  Loads of fun for Byrom families with carnival-type games, bouncy houses, great food options, and entertainment.

FAMILY FUN NIGHTS
Every year, the PSO plans a variety of Family Night events to bring our Byrom community together in fun, meaningful ways. These events are a chance for students, parents, teachers, and staff to connect outside the classroom and make lasting memories.  Learn more about the special events we’ve hosted in the past.

FIELD DAYS

5TH GRADE EVENTS
To celebrate their completion of their years in elementary school, the fifth graders have a party near the end of the school year. There is also a self-funded yearbook, and a legacy art project which is generally coordinated with a local artist and is also self-funded.

GENTLY USED BOOKDRIVE

GRADE LEVEL ENRICHMENT
Field trips, assemblies, and classroom presentations from outside groups enrich the education experience for our children.

BATTLE OF THE BOOKS
The Oregon Battle of the Books, OBOB, is a statewide voluntary reading and comprehension program sponsored by the Oregon Association of School Libraries. At the elementary school level, students in 3rd-5th grade are divided into teams and encouraged to read from a list of sixteen books, representing a variety of literary styles and viewpoints. A “battle” is a tournament where students earn points by answering questions about the books on the list. The winning team from Byrom goes on to the regional tournament, and from there (if successful) to the state tournament. The mission is to encourage and recognize students who enjoy reading, to broaden reading interests, to increase reading comprehension, promote academic excellence, and to promote cooperative learning and teamwork among students.

BOBCAT BENEFIT & AUCTION

The Bobcat Benefit is Byrom’s signature fundraising event—a lively evening full of games, entertainment, and community spirit! This fun-filled event features a student art auction, exciting activities, and opportunities to raise money for the many PSO programs that support our school throughout the year. As one of our biggest events, it takes an amazing team of dedicated volunteers to bring it all together—and the result is always a night to remember!

BOOK FAIR
We host a Book Fair once or twice a year, giving students and families a fun opportunity to explore and purchase new books while supporting our school library. It’s a great way to encourage a love of reading and help raise funds for literacy programs at Byrom!
